Alaskan Malamute Characteristics
The “arctic locomotive”, which is how the Malamute is known, is the most powerful of all sled dogs, although not the fastest. It is capable of carrying weights of up to 20 kg for about 70 km. It was originally bred for use as a utility dog, and then later as a sled dog. The Alaskan Malamute is affectionate, clean, very friendly with humans but surly with males of the same breed. He is very happy and always ready to play. Despite its large size and having a great resemblance to the wolf, it is not a dog with guarding skills. Independence and resourcefulness are common adjectives in this breed. Due to their intelligence, they can be very difficult to train. However, if the trainer understands about this type of breed and how to keep them motivated, success is possible.
