German Wirehaired Pointer Characteristics
Friendly and intelligent, the German Shorthaired Pointer is eager and accommodating. They show great enthusiasm for work and are extremely intelligent. German Pointers are hunters by nature and are one of the most versatile sporting breeds.
German Shorthaired Pointers are family-oriented and great around children (but can be reticent around younger children). They do not like to be left alone for long periods of time, especially since they are oriented toward the company of people. They could become destructive if left alone for too long. A bit reserved, they tend to bark at strangers, but are not known to be aggressive.
They also enjoy and require regular exercise, at least one to two hours daily. They are big fans of water, thanks to their webbed feet and water-resistant coat. They also learn very quickly and love to please and work hard for their owners. They are not normally stubborn, but they tend to get bored easily, which could present a challenge when training.
