Great Dane Characteristics
Noble, gentle, patient, kind and playful, the Great Dane should be surrounded by people. They have a sweet soul and get along well with other dogs, animals, and humans.
They Great Dane is a German breed of large mastiff-sighthound, which descends from hunting dogs of the Middle Ages used to hunt bears, wild boar, and deer. They were also used as guardian dogs of German nobility.
Although they are large size, the Great Dane has a very calm character. They are tender with children and love to play. They are not particularly barkers, but they would not hesitate to protect their family with their bark. Their size alone would scare away a potential thief!
The Great Dane is people oriented and loves attention. They are known to often push with their large head when they want to be petted. They also tend to lean against people and need to be trained not to do this.
Although they are not particularly high energy, Great Danes require a lot of space due to their size as they grow to be so large, and they need to be trained properly at a young age so that they will be manageable as adults.
