Great Pyrenees Characteristics
The character of the Pyrenean Mountain Dogs can be described as a confident breed with a great sense of detecting danger, brave, guardians and protectors. A well-balanced Pyrenean dog is neither aggressive nor shy. This breed was created, in principle, to guide the flock together with the shepherds. Nowadays, they are usually therapy or rescue errors. They are an intelligent breed that loves to figure things out and work autonomously. They can be stubborn and try to dominate their owners. Their curiosity makes them go from here to there. Therefore, early training is required. If they are not trained, they can become uncontrollable when they become adults. The training is worth it since Pyrenees dogs are great companions. They are loyal to their family, brave and have the ability to distinguish between a friend and an enemy. If they are socialized as puppies, they are very sociable animals that love to play with other dogs and children. They bark – a lot – to defend themselves from intruders (or anyone, really). They tend to bark more at night due to their extraordinary sense of sight and hearing. Their hearing is so acute that they can distinguish sounds even with the TV, air conditioning or music at full volume. They will put their paw on your shoulder or lap to show you how much they love you. They will fit anywhere in the house, big or small.
