Irish Setter Characteristics
The Irish Setter is a very energetic, intelligent and good-natured dog. His adventurous spirit makes him a loving, loyal, and fun yet balanced companion. Irish Setters were originally bred in Ireland as hunting dogs. Today they are happy, enthusiastic, and athletic dogs. They love going to new places and doing new things, especially if the activity involves birds.
Due to its extreme energy, the Irish Setter needs at least an hour of exercise daily. They love to be included in family activities; They may develop separation anxiety as well as become destructive if left alone for long periods of time.
Although extremely intelligent, Irish Setters can be independent and mischievous. They are considered to mature slowly, which causes them to show puppy-like behaviour when they are adults. For this reason, they are a perfect companion for older children, but can be overwhelming for younger children. They are known to get along well with other animals if properly socialized.
