We all love our animals, and we can demonstrate just how much we care about them by looking after their health and wellbeing at all times. One of the ways you can do this is to use our home Dog Allergy Test kit.
Dog Allergy Testing will, as the name suggests, test your dog for allergies. This is done remotely and painlessly, to ensure the least amount of hassle and distress to your pet. The results will highlight any sensitivities your animal is experiencing, either to their environment or their food.
What Test Results Will Tell You
Thousands of animals each year are taken to the vet in order to investigate the reasons behind persistent itchiness, digestive problems or behavioural issues, which may be linked to allergies. Often, these issues go undetected and untreated for months or even years, causing you and your dog undue stress and worry.
With the Dog Allergy Test, you can discover possible reasons for your dog’s problems, whether they are behavioural or biological, and take steps to avoid potential allergens, so your pet is no longer exposed.
When your test has been completed, you will be provided with a report on the reaction of your pet to 125 of the most common possible allergens. These could be present in food and other substances that your animal is likely to come into contact with on a regular basis, for example those found in shampoos, or in the outside environment, such as plants.
Please visit our Dog Allergy Testing Allergens page to view the full list of allergens covered by the test.
How the Dog Allergy Test Works
Knowledge is power, as the saying goes, and once you have accurate information on your canine’s potential sensitivities to specific substances, you can act accordingly to ensure they are kept away from them as far as possible. For instance, should the test flag the fact your pet is reacting to a particular dog food ingredient, you can then make sure you check all their food does not contain that substance in the future.
Using our services is simplicity itself. You will be sent a kit with instructions for collecting a suitable sample from your dog using the saliva collection device, to send back to us as instructed for testing. Once we receive your sample, we will test the proteins present in your dog’s immune system, which enables us to measure your dog’s sensitivities to 125 common substances. This is recognised as the most accurate way to measure the sensitivities in your pet.
You will then receive a detailed report outlining the potential allergies your dog has, so you can take appropriate action. If necessary, you may want to follow up the report with a trip to your vet to see how best to proceed, although you may be able to act yourself, simply by removing the possible allergens from their diet or environment.
As part of our service, we will even provide you with a handy list of products and foodstuffs which your dog has shown no reaction to, enabling you to have a convenient guide to the substances which are safe to use around them. This can help enormously in providing your pet with the best, most allergen-free environment possible.
Testing your pooch is easy, affordable and fast. We aim to get your results back to you in just 4 weeks. So why not show your pet you care about their wellbeing, by getting them tested today?

Food and Medication – Will They Affect the Results?
The dog being tested should not be eating absolutely anything before the sample is collected, as this could adversely affect the test results. We therefore recommend that the sample be collected in the morning before eating. If this is not possible, we suggest that you wait as long as possible between meals before collecting the sample.
In addition to food, there are also medications, such as antihistamines and steroids, which can affect the dog’s test results. For example, Apoquel, Benadryl, Cytopoint and Prednisone/Prednisolone suppress the immune system and will affect the test results. Therefore, your dog should not take antihistamines, anti-itch and anti-inflammatory drugs or steroid medications for 1-2 weeks before collecting his sample.
Antibiotics such as Clavaseptin do not affect the test results.
If you are in any doubt please Contact Us before taking the sample.
How Old Should My Dog Be Before I Test?
While this test can identify sensitivities at any age, a puppy’s physiology changes quickly and the sensitivities they have under 12 months of age may completely change as they age. It is recommended that dogs be over 12 months of age to identify specific allergens that may affect them as they grow older.
Limitations of the Dog Allergy Test
Dog Allergy Testing is designed to test for sensitivities in your pet, not true allergies which are immediate and can have severe consequences. Sensitivity testing indicates a delayed response by your dog’s immune system to the allergen being tested.
This test is designed to help you learn the sensitivities your dog may be experiencing so you can have a better understanding of what your pet may not be able to tolerate. There are a number of options available to deal with these sensitivities. We recommend discussing them with your veterinarian to find the solution that is best for you. This can include introducing a new diet to your canine, eliminating certain foods and medications.
This test is not intended to offer medical advice and if your dog is experiencing symptoms we recommend seeking the advice of a professional. We hope this test will put your pet on the right path to wellness.
